It’s Monday and time for a brand new Meet the Team Monday, and today is none another than our company Director Fiona Simpson. Fiona has worked so hard across the last 8 years to make YTA what it is! Quite simply without Fiona, YTA wouldn’t be here, every day we are changing lives and giving people brand new experiences because of what Fiona has created, and isn’t that a wonderful thing!?
We’ve asked her a few questions for you to get to know her better.
- Why did you set up YTA?
I set YTA up to make a difference! Sounds cheesy but it’s true. I wanted to do something that not only makes a difference to the communities we visit abroad but something that would be life affirming and, in some cases, life changing for those that take part. I truly believe that YTA and our partner charity Younite have the perfect balance and I’m very proud of what we have achieved.
- What is your greatest achievement with YTA?
I think the fact that YTA is now a fully sustainable business and that we partner an incredible charity is a big achievement for us. It’s not been easy, but we are very lucky to have so many people support us and believe in what we are doing. Aside to this an obvious achievement is what we have done for two incredible schools in Kenya. To see where they are now compared to 7 years ago is extremely rewarding.
- What is your Favourite thing about YTA?
Going on the trips!! I love meeting new people, I love travel, I love helping people, I love adventure. And I also love the amazing team I work with. I also especially love going back to Kenya each year to see the progress that is being made. To much Love!? I just love my job!
- What do you do when you are not working for YTA?
I’m always working 😉 But I do love watching crap tv, drinking tea and relaxing on my sofa.
- What is your favourite quote?
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” — Confucius
- If you could visit any country where would you go?
Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas – It looks incredible.
- If you could be any animal what would you be?
Ok so I’ve maybe thought about this too much. I’m not a cat lover at all and I wouldn’t have one, but I really think I would want to be one.
With the right owner they have the best life. They can go in and out as they please, have attention when they want it, sleep all day and no one cares. Dreamy! The only thing that probably isn’t that great is the food.
And it’s time for the bit you are all here for… The Christmas Question today is….
