Younique Travel Adventures
As we all start to emerge from a very strange few months in lockdown, we wanted to touch base with all our friends and supporters and to those that were due to travel with YTA this year.
As you can imagine the Covid-19 crisis has hit both YTA and our partner charity hard over the last few months and we know that sadly this will have a long-term impact for us all.
Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this pandemic, we know that this has impacted so many people in so many ways. We still cannot quite get our heads around what is going on and just like everyone are now having to adapt to the new normal.
We wanted to give you all an update on where we are at with YTA and the continued support we are giving to the partner schools that Younite Foundation help.
Firstly, understandably we have had cancellations for this year, but we have also had a number of our travellers postpone their trips with us and we are still getting new bookings for 2021 which is really positive to see and has given us hope for the future of YTA. We sadly will not be running any trips this year but we are still very much open for business and are now looking forward to people travelling with us in 2021 and 2022. To provide peace of mind for your health and safety and financial security, we will be introducing new ways of travel and bookings. This in turn will help to provide security for the communities we visit in these very uncertain times.
This year was set to be one of our best years yet… (That is what they all say 😉) but honestly, we were very excited for this year with lots of people joining us across all three of our destinations. We had some exciting new trips, with the launch of our first ever Yoga based trip in India and a more Safari based package for Kenya. We, this year, were also launching a brand-new destination. More on this exciting update will follow in the coming months.
We know that we are going to face more challenges as a small independent business in the travel industry, however we are fortunate that we have always maintained our focus, remained relatively small and stuck to what we do best. We know that we will weather this storm and come out the other side stronger and better. Thank you to all our customers who have supported us through this difficult time. We will be back!
As you will all know we at YTA are partnered with Younite Foundation, a charity set up specifically to support Melon Mission, Silver bells Children’s Welfare and Little Kings in Nakuru, Kenya. Prior to lockdown we really felt positive for the future of these projects and we were heading in the right direction to get them to a place where they could be sustainable. To see the incredible progress made at Melon Mission, check this video out.
In March we held our 9th annual ball and raised 11k, the most ever. This money was split across all three schools and has been used on food, water, care packages, planting of crops and trees and some essential bills such as teachers’ allowances, electricity and rent for orphans. This has contributed to the support the schools have had over the past four months.
Whilst it was a huge amount to have raised, we have only touched the surface of what these schools need. It costs thousands of pounds a month to feed 600+ children daily.
The situation in Kenya is worsening every day with cases rising. These types of projects rely solely on kind donations and sponsorship. Recently it was announced that the schools will now be closed until January 2021, this is an extremely long time for the children to be away from an education, social care and guaranteed food and water. We alongside the amazing people who run these schools are dedicated to do what we can to support the children from home with a real focus on providing them and their families with food and water.
They still need our help and now more than ever. We know that it is going to be even more difficult to fundraise but we hope with the help of everyone who has visited these incredible schools and to all those who have supported Younite in the past, we can continue to offer our help from a distance.
Below is an appeal video (Filming was made pre-covid) that we will be sharing over our social media pages in the next few weeks. If you can also share this with your friends and family, it will be really appreciated.
If you would like to donate to Younite please go to out Virgin Giving page virginmoneygiving.com/fund/covid-19foodappeal or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would prefer to make a direct donation to the schools, you can contact them via their facebook pages, and they can send you information on how to help.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our efforts in helping these projects, even through the toughest of times we have seen so much kindness.
We will up our social media game very soon. In the meantime, know we are still here and we are still very much excited for the future.
