2018 has been another amazing year for Younique Travel Adventures and it only gets better every year! 2018 marks a special year for me as it marked 3 years of travelling to Kenya/India and 3 years of being involved with such an awesome company. Writing this blog has made me realise how we, as a company, have gone from strength to strength and 2019 looks even brighter than this year! Before we enter another quick, busy year, it’s time to look back at all the things that I have had the pleasure of being involved within 2018. As the children would say in Kenya “sit back, relax and enjoy” 2018- a year in review…
As always, the start to the year has to be the best night of the year… the Younite Foundation Charity Ball. After raising a whopping £6300 for the projects based in Kenya it sets our groups up well to ensure a sustainable, ethical way forward for the projects. When I take groups out to Kenya, we get to see the magic this funding has done and even get involved with the work. From the progress at the new school for Melon Mission or the brick and mortar admin block built at Silver Bells. Being able to see the difference these funds make really helps alleviate all the hard work put in by the team to pull off such an amazing fundraising night! If this sounds like a great night to you, places/tables are still available for 2019’s event on Saturday 2nd March. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and to book your place.
After the amazing night of the Kenya ball, I kicked off the year having the pleasure to accompany a group of 9 others on a trip of a lifetime to India. Trekking in the foothills of the Himalayas, white water rafting down the Ganges and having an iconic photo in front of the Taj Mahal. As much as it is a cliche the people in the group really did make the trip as amazing as it was. Making friends for life isn’t just a saying for us at YTA it is the truth and it where some of the best friendships are made with other like-minded people. As fun as all of this sounds, we got to support a school in the mountains for the day playing some fun games with the children and bringing some much-needed donations. We also got the chance to see the slums in the heart of Delhi, how these people live and to support a project called P.E.T.E. making a meaningful impact and a lovely way to say thank you to the country of India for welcoming us with open arms.
As one trip comes to an end another month of fun was around the corner. Across June and July, I was in Kenya for a whole month getting to lead a group of uni students, travel with three individual volunteers and spend two days with the July group. Having spent so long in the country I really did see the difference each and every one of these volunteers made. I’m sure you are thinking yeah you can say that but honestly, it is so true. Each people I got to spend time within Kenya gave it 110%! We all had our highs and our lows, but we made such an impact and I couldn’t have been happier to see it! I need to say a huge thank you to the two leaders who supported me in leading our uni group, Josh and Issie. As well as to Summer who spent the whole month with me conducting some research for her dissertation and making a legacy at the projects.
Now as 2018 comes to a close its time to look forward to another year, 2019. I couldn’t be more excited! It will be a chance for me to take another group of fantastic volunteers back out to Kenya for two weeks and make a lasting impact and see how much we are doing to support our projects. I am hopeful to travel out to Vietnam to see the wonderfully exciting country and tick it off my list of countries I want to travel too! If any of this sounds exciting to you get in touch today to book your place and be a part of an unforgettable 2019!
To everyone, I have had the pleasure to meet and travel within 2018 thank you and also a huge thank you to Fiona for setting up such an awesome organisation- without you none of this would be possible! A hidden YTA figure is Charlotte who ensures our volunteers and travellers are ready for their trips. None of us could travel without your work so thank you!
